5 Verses to Fight Against the Enemy

Sometimes life feels like war, and a week or a single day can feel like a battle.

But as believers, we sometimes forget that God equipped us with the best weapon we could ever have…His word. And His word lasts forever. So it’s like going to a sword fight with a sword that will never break and everyone else has pool noodles.

Okay, that was a bit much…but the point is that with God on our side, we will always win. And for those battles that are tough to beat, we can use the Bible to help us on our journey.

Ellie Holcomb has been doing a series called “Memory Mondays” where she takes a Bible verse and creates a short song from that scripture. The results are simply beautiful.

She starts every video by saying, “Hey y’all I am just trying to just trying to bury some truth and some light in my heart by singing scripture.” And I hope that you will find encouragement in her voice and these powerful words.

1. Isaiah 60:20

“Your sun will never set;
your moon will not go down.
For the Lord will be your everlasting light.
Your days of mourning will come to an end.” (NLT)

This is a reminder that when it feels like everything is changing, God is the same yesterday, today, and forever.

2. Colossians 2:7

“Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness.” (NLT)

Did you know that anxiety and gratitude cannot co-exist in the brain? So when we are rooted in thanksgiving, it helps melt away our worries.

3. Psalm 34:18

“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted;
He rescues those whose spirits are crushed.” (NLT)

When you are in your lowest valley and your darkest place, the King of Kings is near and hears your cries.

4. John 6:32-36

“Jesus said, ‘I tell you the truth, Moses didn’t give you bread from heaven. My Father did. And now he offers you the true bread from heaven. The true bread of God is the one who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.’ ‘Sir,’ they said, ‘give us that bread every day.’Jesus replied, ‘I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry again. Whoever believes in me will never be thirsty. But you haven’t believed in me even though you have seen me.'” (NLT)

This is a beautiful message that Jesus is our “life-giver” and will sustain us in everything.

5. Ephesians 4:32

“Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you.” (NLT)

It’s always easier to be kind when life is good. But when we struggle, it’s hard to go the extra step. If we are kind to others in the hard times, others will do the same for you.
